Brownie batter

A while back I posted on Facebook that brownie batter will in fact be in heaven.  It got me thinking about other times I have said or thought about good things on earth that may or may not be in heaven.  The bible gives us a little insight about what will be in heaven but here is what struck me in the midst of desiring brownie batter in heaven…NOTHING ON THIS PLANET CAN COMPARE WITH WHAT GOD HAS IN STORE FOR US IN HEAVEN.

Have you ever thought something like, “I know heaven will be good and all but I just want do ___________ first.”  We place a high value on the things we experience in this life because that is what we know.  That is what we can see and touch and feel.  But let me ask you to take a step back and drink in a few verses from scripture that should make your imagination run wild and your affections long for the day when you will see Him.

You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
(Psalm 16:11 ESV)

But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—
(1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV)

What is the thing in this life that brings you the most joy?  What brings you the most peace?  What brings you the most satisfaction?  What things in this life are you looking forward to experiencing?  Scripture promises us nothing on this earth will compare to the pleasures and joys of being with our Jesus in the New Heavens and the New Earth forever, NOTHING!  David said, “In your presence (God) there is FULLNESS of JOY …PLEASURES FOREVERMORE”

Each day in eternity with Jesus is new and beautiful and adventurous and breathtaking because God is there!  He is the reality that makes eternity something to look forward to instead of something to dread.  How could we ever really prefer anything in this world to what God has in store for His children?

So, let me ask you two questions?  Are you one of His children?  Being born in the south, going to church, being baptized, repeating prayers does not make you one of God’s children.  The Bible says those who TURN FROM their sin and rebellion against God and TURN TO Jesus as their only hope for life and salvation will be saved.  The evidence of that decision is not checking a box on a card or having your name on a membership role at church.  It is a changed heart that is growing in love for God, love for others, and hatred toward sin, the very thing that separated us from Christ and sent him to the cross.

The second question is for those of us who have that relationship with the Lord.  Are you living in light of the beautiful reality of spending eternity in a place (heaven) with a person (Jesus) that is beyond your imagination?
